Ruanova were essential in maintaining the supply line guaranteeing Q's empire never ran dry by 97 Q was touching serious bread that year him and his man Ray Red Amerson along with some soldiers slid out to LA to grab a heavy cocaine package but things went left police snatched up 484k in cash currency Q had set aside for the transaction that was a blow but Q wasn't the folding type Amerson though he was already walking a razor's edge earlier that year he caught a 24 month probation sentence off a felony narcotics charge in Charlotte North Carolina he had relocated down there with his ex-wife after completing a five year sentence for a cocaine and weapons case from back in 91 but the concrete don't release easy by February 24th 1998 Amerson got knocked again for trafficking and wound up with a 35 42 month sentence meanwhile on the legitimate side of things Q's cousin Robert tractor trailer was about to touch real currency instead of finishing his senior campaign at Michigan trailer declared for the 98 NBA draft on June 24th Dallas Mavericks selected him as the sixth overall selection but they traded his draft rights to the Milwaukee bucks that same night first year salary a clean nine hundred sixty nine thousand four hundred dollars Q wasn't operating like no regular street dealer he was thinking larger he elevated purchasing a crib in West Bloomfield one of Michigan's wealthy suburbs right next door to trailer but that was just one of his locations he had residences tucked away in Canton Michigan Atlanta Georgia and Fontana California and he wasn't stopping there he even had his sights on a five hundred thousand dollars estate in France by two thousand two Q was already entrenched in the game but he was always looking to expand that's when he connected with Tommy Lee Hodges a flashier more extravagant hustler with something Q required tractor trailers and a crew of drivers their operation was airtight major weight up to three zero zero zero pound shipments of marijuana traveling from Arizona straight to the D once the shipments touched Detroit they were stored in warehouses before getting packaged up and shipped out to distribution locations sometimes private residences all within an hour Q wasn't just eating off Detroit anymore he expanded heavy Cali Ohio Oklahoma Georgia and Arizona where he was securing wholesale prices on his supply but the one really going insane was Hodges that dude transported an estimated eighteen thousand one hundred and forty four kilos of marijuana into Detroit just between January and October of 02 the currency was flooding in so fast he purchased himself a yacht just to celebrate but all currency ain't good currency and partnerships in the narcotic game rarely end peacefully by the fall of two thousand two things between Q and Hodges turned violent in September Q got hit caught a bullet as he was exiting a bar two weeks later McKinley Tiner one of Q's reliable guys got laid down shot to death the blocks were heating Hodges still pushing major weight had his own problems on October 15th 2002 law enforcement in Arizona ran down on some of his people grabbing up three hundred eighty four thousand nine hundred and fifty four dollars in cash the payment for another heavy shipment of marijuana headed to Detroit that type of loss meant somebody was going to have to answer for it by two thousand three the pressure on Q's empire kept rising his enforcer Jamil Cohn Carter also known as Leon Pierce got jammed up hit with a gun charge connected to drug trafficking and he wasn't going quietly one of the arresting officers testified that Carter straight up told them he would have shot them if there had been fewer cops on the scene on April 12th 2003 it was all out warfare on the streets of Detroit Lamont Donnell Paris Q's chief enforcer and Rashi Ali Harris pulled up on Tommy Lee Hodges outside Tiffany's nightclub a hot location in the city with a mission Hodges was sitting in his Mercedes-Benz with his girl Melita Miller when Paris and Harris unloaded on him with semi-automatic rifles shots rang out in the parking lot and as the vehicle sped off it took fire the whole way until it stopped at a traffic light that's when Melita Miller made a move she bailed running for her life but Hodges wasn't finished he jumped out started returning fire right at the club letting off rounds in the direction of the crowd the chaos didn't stop there Darrell White an employee at the club and one of 15 bystanders nearby took a bullet to the cornea but somehow survived as for Paris and Harris they didn't get away clean the law came quick and both were arrested after a wild chase through the streets when the cops searched the scene they found the arsenal left behind two handguns a bulletproof vest and the rifles that were used to send those shots at Hodges's direction Harris who was on parole was wearing the vest when they took him down the cops also found 10 shell casings and loaded magazines in the parking lot all within five minutes of Hodges pulling up witnesses claimed Paris and Harris hopped out of a van open fire and made their move while the shots were still echoing through the lot by 2004 Harris was convicted of three counts of assault with intent to murder along with a slew of other charges he was sentenced to a brutal 50 to 75 years for each of the assault convictions plus additional time for his involvement in the violent spree but this wasn't the end of it in July of 2003 Hodges's half-brother was gunned down in a drive-by a clear retaliation for the ongoing beef with Lewis at this point Hodges was moving in different ways he was rolling through the streets in a van with bulletproof glass trying to stay a step ahead of the war that was ripping the city apart federal investigators started connecting the dots linking at least four house bombings and 11 murders to the bloody clash between him and Lewis in August of 2003 federal agents finally made their move they indicted Q and multiple members of his organization on racketeering conspiracy charges money laundering drug trafficking and murder the feds were serious about dismantling this empire completely Quazan Lewis was arrested and charged with heading a continuing criminal enterprise the most serious drug charge available in federal court he faced life in prison no parole his whole crew was going down with him some took deals testified against Q but the loyalty in that organization ran deep many chose to ride it out and face the time rather than flip on their leader by 2005 Q was convicted on multiple counts his sentence came down hard life without the possibility of parole he was sent to a federal penitentiary where he remains to this day his cousin Robert Tractor Trailer's NBA career had already taken its own dark turn by then but that's another story entirely Quasand Q Daniel Lewis built one of Detroit's most extensive and violent drug empires but like all empires built on blood and powder it eventually came crashing down his legacy ain't one of success it's a cautionary tale about how the fast money the respect and the power that the streets promise always comes with a price tag that can't be negotiated the lives lost the families destroyed the communities torn apart by his operation that's the real cost of the game when Lewis finally got caught it wasn't just his organization that fell it was a whole ecosystem of violence and addiction that he had cultivated his name became synonymous with Detroit's darkest era a period when the city was plagued by gang wars house bombings and senseless murders today Quasand Lewis sits in a federal cell for life a monument to the consequences of unchecked ambition and the brutal truth that nobody wins in the drug game not really the streets don't care about your cousin's NBA contract or the mansions you own or the yachts you buy in the end the only thing waiting for you is a cell a conviction and a lifetime to think about what you could have been instead of what you became that's the legacy of Q a cautionary chapter in Detroit's criminal history and a reminder to every young cat in the streets that the game don't love nobody peace
